In 1957 Mrs Guinevere Tilney, wife of the MP for Liverpool Wavertree and Mrs Nancy Papworth decided to form a Ladies Luncheon Club to hear the views of a wide range of Conservative MPs and local Dignitaries. With the help and support of Sir Ernest Stacey, the then Chairman of the Liverpool Conservative Association, the club was founded.
The first lunch was held on November 8th 1957 at the new Shakespeare Theatre Club. The Speaker Miss Joan Vickers MP addressed about 50 members.
The membership grew rapidly and is still going today.
During its 64 years in its existence, the Club has met at the Stork Hotel, The Exchange Hotel and Reeces Restaurant in Clayton Square before finally moving to the Adelphi Hotel.
In 1957, Liverpool and much of Merseyside was Conservative-controlled, and despite the political changes over the years the Club has survived and flourished.
We meet in a convivial atmosphere and views are freely expressed - nothing is nicer than a 3 course Lunch in good company.
Past speakers include former Prime Ministers Theresa May and John Major. A firm favourite is Michael Heseltine.
Locally born MPs such as Teresa Coffey, Gillian Keegan, Nadine Dorries, Jake Berry and Esther McVey are supportive of our Events.
We meet on the 1st Friday of the month in October, November, February, March and April.
